CitizenShipper’s onboarding is quick and painless
CitizenShipper keeps onboarding short: a welcome modal with a skip button, a seven-step tooltip tour and a resource centre for anyone who skipped it.
At the time of the recording, CitizenShipper kept its onboarding short. A welcome modal ("We're glad to have you on board. Let us show you around!") explains the home dashboard and offers two buttons: Start tour and Skip. The tour that follows is seven steps of highlighted tooltips on the shipment listings, each with Previous and Next buttons. For users who skip it, a resource centre opens from the side of the screen with help articles, a search bar and links to the help centre and support.
Why it works
✅ Skip button: the welcome modal offers a clear Skip button next to Start tour. Users who don't need the tour aren't forced through it, and an explicit choice reads better than a lone close icon.
✅ Few steps, explanatory copy: the tour is seven steps long (the counter shows it from the first screen), so users know it won't take long and are more willing to read tooltips that explain a little more than usual.
✅ Help always available: a prominent skip option means some people who need help will skip anyway. The resource centre lets them find answers on their own later.
