Intercom product tours alternatives: 6 tools worth a look

Intercom is a customer-service platform (a shared inbox, help center and its Fin AI agent) that also sends product tours, checklists and surveys, through an add-on to its per-seat plans. If you want in-app tours without paying for a support platform, here are six alternatives, each for a different need, with the facts read from their own pages. All six list an Intercom integration, so keeping Intercom for support is an option too.

UserOnboarding Academy isn't owned by Intercom or any tool on this list. No vendor reviewed this page before publication.

Three picks for three different needs

  1. UserpilotBest forproduct analytics beside your tours, at a printed priceProduct analytics comes with every plan (trends on Starter, funnels and retention from Growth) and is praised in 419 of the 1,022 reviews we read, where Intercom's AI insights analyse support conversations, not product usage; its pricing page lists an Intercom integration on every plan.$299 / mo · Free plan: Not listed
  2. UserflowBest forunlimited seats and a printed monthly priceEvery plan has unlimited team members and experiences, where Intercom charges per Full seat and only Full seats can fully use outbound content, and Essentials prints its price for both billing periods: $300 / mo billed monthly, $240 / mo billed annually, for 1,000 MAUs.$300 / mo · Free plan: Not listed
  3. PendoBest forguides in native mobile apps, with a free plan to startIts mobile page lists SDKs for native iOS and Android, React Native and Flutter that cover guides, where Intercom's Product Tours FAQ says its tours don't work in mobile apps, and Pendo Free covers analytics and in-app guides for up to 500 MAUs.Custom quote · Free plan: Pendo Free, up to 500 MAUs

Stay with Intercom if your support team already works in Intercom and you want tours, checklists and surveys to share its customer data, help-center content and reporting with the inbox and Fin. Check Intercom's plans →

Prices as each vendor shows them, checked 19 Oct 2026–3 Nov 2026. Each tool prices in its own unit, so entry prices buy different amounts. The rows follow the list’s order: the picks, then A–Z.

Intercom bills per Full seat plus usage (Fin outcomes, messages beyond the add-on's 500, and pay-as-you-go email and SMS), so its cost follows your support team and message volume. Appcues, Userpilot, Userflow, UserGuiding and Pendo count monthly active users and Chameleon monthly tracked users, from 1,000 at Appcues' Spark and Userflow to 2,000 at Userpilot, UserGuiding and Chameleon, so price them at your MAUs and Intercom at your seats and messages.

Why people look for Intercom alternatives

G2 lists Intercom as Fin, its AI agent, so its 4.5 rating and 3,952 reviews cover the whole suite, inbox and help desk included, not the tours alone. We tagged only the 425 reviews that mention product tours, onboarding, checklists, banners, tooltips or outbound messages, most of them written from 2020 to 2022, and their complaints can be about any part of Intercom: missing features come up most (152), then price and plan structure (119) and the learning curve (66). The price is built around a support team. Tooltips and banners come with every plan, but product tours, checklists and surveys sit in the Proactive Support Plus add-on, $99 a month including 500 messages, with extra messages charged per unit. The add-on goes on top of a per-seat plan that needs at least one paid Full seat, and only Full seats can send messages or fully use outbound content. Seats cost $29, $99 or $139 a month on Essential, Advanced and Expert billed monthly, or $19, $85 or $132 billed annually (Essential's are new-customer prices, struck through from $39 and $29), and every plan adds from $0.99 per Fin outcome. Its Product Tours FAQ also says tours don't work on mobile web or in mobile apps.

G2 now lists Intercom as Fin, its AI agent, so the rating and review count cover the whole suite (support inbox, help desk and Fin included), not only product tours.

Of the 425 reviews that mention product tours, onboarding, checklists, banners, tooltips or outbound messages (G2 lists 3,952 under Fin), reviewers praise those in-app experiences most (310), then ease of use (198), named results such as fewer tickets or faster onboarding (110), the help center (109) and the support team (97). They criticise missing features most (152), then price and plan structure (119), the learning curve (66) and support response times (57).

Before you switch from Intercom

If Intercom stays your inbox, what moves is the Proactive Support Plus add-on: rebuild each product tour, checklist and survey in the new tool, and decide where the Series campaigns that mix tours with email and push will run, since of the tools here only Appcues lists email and push on every plan. Your help center can stay where it is: all six alternatives list an Intercom integration, and Userflow's Adoption Agent (Studio) answers in-app questions from an Intercom help center.

  1. Save what you haveExport or screenshot every live flow, checklist and survey with its targeting rules, and note the events and integrations each one depends on.
  2. Rebuild one real flowRecreate your most-used flow in the new tool with the same steps and audience, then check it on the browsers, screen sizes and languages your users have.
  3. Follow the dataCheck that users are identified the same way, that the events your flows fire still arrive, and that your activation reports read the new tool's data.
  4. Price it, then switchGet a quote for your real MAUs or seats, renewal included. Turn the old flow off only once the new one has passed, then cancel the old plan.

Also considered

  • WalkMe, Whatfix, Userlane and Apty: Digital adoption platforms aimed largely at the business software a company's staff use, and none prints a price. This list is for tours inside your own product.
  • Stonly: A knowledge and support platform first, though its pages also list guides, tours and onboarding checklists; its paid plans print no prices, and none of its 132 G2 reviews is newer than December 2024.
  • iorad: A tutorial builder rather than an in-product onboarding tool: its FAQ describes its tutorials as standalone, and in-app live guidance is listed only on Enterprise, marked beta.
  • Nickelled: Its site now redirects to Omniplex Learning, and no page we read describes the product.

How we chose

How the list is ordered. The three picks come first, each for a different need; the other 3 follow A–Z by name. A position is not a score, and no tool paid to be listed or placed.

A tool is listed only once we've read its own pricing page and its G2 reviews. Prices, plans, trials and limits come from each vendor's pages, read through a US browser session on the dates shown with each entry; when a page prints no price, the entry says so. G2 lists Intercom as Fin, its AI agent, so the rating and count beside Intercom cover the whole suite, and its themes come only from the reviews that mention product tours, onboarding, checklists, banners, tooltips or outbound messages.

For reviews, an AI model read every G2 review of each tool, as far as G2's filters reach (for Pendo, 1,791 of the 1,827 it lists; for Userpilot, 1,022 of 1,023), and tagged each one against a fixed list of themes, the same for every tool (for Intercom, only those that mention its tours and in-app messages). G2's overall rating and count sit beside our counts; we don't publish review scores of our own.

We read 3,906 of the 3,952 reviews on G2; the 425 that mention product tours, onboarding, checklists, banners, tooltips or outbound messages were each tagged by an AI model against a fixed list of themes.

FAQ

Does Intercom have product tours?

Yes. Its Outbound page lists product tours, checklists and tooltips for onboarding. Tooltips and banners are on every plan; product tours, checklists and surveys need the Proactive Support Plus add-on, $99 a month including 500 messages, on top of a per-seat plan. Its Product Tours FAQ says tours run on websites and web apps, including pages behind a login, but not on mobile web or in mobile apps.

What is the best alternative to Intercom product tours?

It depends on what you need. For email and push alongside tours, with every feature on every plan, Appcues; for product analytics, Userpilot; for unlimited seats at a printed price, Userflow; for a money-back guarantee and free use until your current subscription ends, UserGuiding; for styling control and localization, Chameleon; and for native mobile apps and a free plan, Pendo.

Is there a cheaper alternative to Intercom product tours?

Intercom's tours cost the $99-a-month add-on plus at least one Full seat, which starts at $29 / mo on Essential billed monthly, or $19 billed annually. The alternatives price by users instead: Userflow's Essentials is $300 / mo for 1,000 MAUs (or $240 / mo billed yearly) with unlimited seats, UserGuiding's Starter $249 / mo billed yearly for up to 2,000 MAUs, Chameleon's Startup $279 for 2,000 MTUs with no billing period printed, and Userpilot's Starter $299 / mo for up to 2,000 MAUs. Pendo Free costs nothing up to 500 MAUs. At one Full seat on Essential billed monthly ($29 / mo) plus the Proactive Support Plus add-on ($99 / mo, 500 messages included), Intercom's tours cost less than any paid entry price printed here; extra seats, messages and Fin outcomes add to it. Each counts users its own way, and Intercom counts seats and messages, so compare them at your own volume.

Can I keep Intercom for support and use another tool for tours?

All six list an Intercom integration on their own pages. Appcues lists a native two-way sync; Userpilot an Intercom integration on every plan; UserGuiding sends onboarding data and survey responses to Intercom; Userflow's Adoption Agent answers from an Intercom help center on Studio; Chameleon lists Intercom among its integrations, which its pricing page puts on Pro and up; and Pendo lists it in its integrations directory.

Which alternatives work in native mobile apps?

Appcues lists native iOS and Android, React Native, Flutter and Ionic apps on every plan; Pendo lists SDKs for native iOS and Android, React Native, Flutter and other frameworks; and Userpilot lists native iOS and Android support on Enterprise or as an add-on on Growth. UserGuiding's FAQ says it doesn't support native mobile apps, and Userflow's and Chameleon's help centers say native iOS and Android apps aren't supported. Intercom's Product Tours FAQ says its tours don't work on mobile web or in mobile apps; its mobile carousels and push are in the add-on.

Which alternative has a free plan?

Of the tools here, only Pendo: Pendo Free, for up to 500 MAUs, with analytics, in-app guides and Pendo-branded NPS. Userpilot, Userflow, UserGuiding and Chameleon offer 14-day trials without a card, and Appcues a trial that starts with a sales call. Intercom lists no free plan, but its 14-day trial, without a card, includes the add-on.

What does Intercom's G2 rating cover?

G2 lists Intercom as Fin, its AI agent, so the 4.5 rating and 3,952 reviews cover the whole suite (support inbox, help desk and Fin included), not product tours alone. The themes on this page come only from the 425 reviews that mention product tours, onboarding, checklists, banners, tooltips or outbound messages, and those reviews can praise or criticise any part of Intercom.

How did you pick these tools?

Each had to have a pricing page we could read and G2 reviews we could read and tag against the same themes as every other tool (for Intercom, the reviews that mention its tours and in-app messages). The method section above explains how the reviews were read.
