Apty alternatives: 4 tools worth a look

Apty adds walkthroughs, tooltips, real-time field validations and process analytics to the enterprise applications a company's employees use. Reviewers rate it 4.7 out of 5 on G2 and praise it most for guiding employees through internal software, level with the results they name. Reasons to look elsewhere include missing features, a learning curve, guidance in desktop or mobile apps, which the Apty pages we read don't mention, or wanting a price you can see without a quote. Here are four alternatives, each for a different need, with the facts read from their own pages.

Why people look for Apty alternatives

We read all 147 of Apty's G2 reviews. Missing features are the most-named complaint, in 22 of the 147 reviews we read, ahead of a learning curve (20), friction in the editor and element selection (17) and bugs (10); 58 name no dislike, and none criticises the price. Most of the reviews are old, though: 106 of the 147 date from 2019 to 2021, and only 13 from 2025 or later. Apty prints no prices, tiers or trial: each deployment is quoted on its users, applications and implementation needs. Its site has also moved: apty.io addresses now redirect to apty.ai.

WalkMe is a digital adoption platform sold in two versions, for employees and for customers. The employee version adds Discovery, which shows company-wide web-app usage down to the user, workflow automation and support for SAP GUI, and both versions list a Mobile Native SDK for iOS and Android apps. Ease of use is the theme reviewers praise most (252 of the 583 reviews we read).

WalkMe's homepage, October 2026
walkme.com, October 2026
Why pick WalkMe over Apty
  • A Mobile Native SDK for native and hybrid iOS and Android apps, and SAP GUI for Windows and SAP Business Client in the employee version; the Apty pages we read mention neither mobile nor desktop apps
  • Discovery shows web-app usage across the company down to the user, to find inefficiencies and control licence costs
  • Surveys with branching, delivered in-app, by email or by anonymous link; the Apty pages we read don't mention surveys
  • Its reviews are more recent: 115 of the 583 we read date from 2025 or later, against 13 of Apty's 147
Keep in mind
  • No prices, plan tiers, billing unit or trial on its pricing page; Apty's at least names what drives its quote
  • The learning curve is the most-named complaint (152 of 583), against 20 of Apty's 147, and 39 reviews say flows break when the app changes, against 3 of Apty's

Before you switch from Apty

Apty's pricing page lists exporting in-app content and insights among what every deployment includes, so take that export before your contract ends. Field validations are the hardest part to carry over: of the tools here only Userlane's pages describe them, so list every validation rule you run and decide how each will be enforced after the move.

  1. Save what you haveExport or screenshot every live flow, checklist and survey with its targeting rules, and note the events and integrations each one depends on.
  2. Rebuild one real flowRecreate your most-used flow in the new tool with the same steps and audience, then check it on the browsers, screen sizes and languages your users have.
  3. Follow the dataCheck that users are identified the same way, that the events your flows fire still arrive, and that your activation reports read the new tool's data.
  4. Price it, then switchGet a quote for your real MAUs or seats, renewal included. Turn the old flow off only once the new one has passed, then cancel the old plan.

Also considered

  • iorad: A tutorial builder rather than in-app guidance: its FAQ describes its tutorials as standalone, and in-app Live Mode is listed only on Enterprise, marked beta.
  • Stonly: A knowledge platform built mainly for customer-service teams: troubleshooting guides and a knowledge base for customers and support agents.
  • Userpilot, Appcues, Chameleon, UserGuiding and Userflow: Onboarding tools for your own web product rather than for employee software: at most 6 of the reviews we read for each praise employee use.
  • Intercom: Its product tours sit in an add-on to a customer-service platform and run on your own website or web app, and G2 now lists Intercom as Fin, its AI agent, so its G2 rating and review count cover the whole suite rather than the tours.
  • Nickelled: Its site now redirects to Omniplex Learning, a learning and development company, and no page we read describes the product.

How we chose

How the list is ordered. The three picks come first, each for a different need; the other 1 follow A–Z by name. A position is not a score, and no tool paid to be listed or placed.

A tool is listed only once we've read its own pricing page and its G2 reviews. Prices, plans, trials and limits come from each vendor's pages, read through a US browser session on the dates shown with each entry; when a page prints no price, the entry says so.

For reviews, an AI model read every G2 review of each tool, as far as G2's filters reach (for Pendo, 1,791 of the 1,827 it lists), and tagged each one against the same themes for every tool. G2's overall rating and count sit beside our counts; we don't publish review scores of our own.

All 147 reviews on G2, each read and tagged by an AI model against a fixed list of themes.

FAQ

What is the best alternative to Apty?

It depends on why you're leaving. For field validation in browser-based apps, priced per application, Userlane; for plans for desktop and mobile apps, Whatfix; for company-wide app discovery, SAP GUI and native mobile apps, WalkMe; for guiding customers in your own product, Pendo.

Is there a cheaper alternative to Apty?

Apty prints no price, so there's no figure to compare against, and none of the four tools here prints a paid price either. Pendo Free costs nothing for up to 500 MAUs of your own product. The rest are quoted, though Whatfix and Userlane say on their pages what the quote is based on; WalkMe doesn't.

Which Apty alternative has a free plan or a free trial?

Pendo has a free plan, for up to 500 MAUs with analytics and in-app guides, and a 30-day trial arranged through sales. Whatfix's FAQ mentions a free trial, but its link opens a demo request. The WalkMe and Userlane pricing pages list none, as Apty's doesn't.

Which alternatives have field validation like Apty's?

Of the tools here, only Userlane's pages describe it: its Validators check entries as they're typed or at submission, and a measure mode records the error rate without interrupting anyone. Neither the WalkMe pages we read (its pricing, security and integration pages and a help article on AI Insights) nor the Whatfix ones (its pricing, AI and security pages and two help articles) mention field validation. Pendo's pages don't describe it either, though its help center links to an article on form validation guides, which we haven't read.

Which Apty alternatives work in desktop apps such as SAP GUI?

WalkMe's employee version supports SAP GUI for Windows and SAP Business Client. Whatfix covers desktop apps on its web and desktop plans, with virtual desktops such as Citrix and Azure on Premium only. The Apty and Userlane pages we read don't mention desktop apps.

Which Apty alternatives support mobile apps?

WalkMe lists a Mobile Native SDK for native and hybrid iOS and Android apps, Pendo lists SDKs for native iOS and Android, React Native, Flutter and other frameworks, and Whatfix sells a separate plan for mobile apps. The Apty and Userlane pages we read don't mention native mobile apps.

Which alternatives have more recent G2 reviews than Apty?

Only 13 of Apty's 147 G2 reviews date from 2025 or later. Of the reviews we read for each alternative, 315 of Pendo's 1,791, 206 of Whatfix's 563 and 115 of WalkMe's 583 date from 2025 or later. Userlane's reviews end in December 2023.

How did you pick these tools?

Each had to have a pricing page we could read and G2 reviews we could read and tag against the same themes as every other tool. The method section above explains how the reviews were read.
