Microsoft Outlook features a feedback modal in-app when users are performing their regular tasks. The survey modal asks, “for informational purposes, how do you plan to use this account?”. It also points out at the top that the survey is to help improve Outlook.
✅ In-app over email, any day - You would have expected that Outlook would send an email to ask for feedback. Knowing that the survey completion rates wouldn’t skyrocket by doing so, they use an in-app modal for a survey.
✅ Short copy, good hierarchy - The survey modal uses the “help us improve Outlook” phrase to make the users feel empowered to change Outlook, the next most important copy, the question comes next, and the procedural warnings come the last in tiny fonts.
✅ The Outlook icon - Though the use of the icon doesn’t do much in terms of visual support, it helps to situate the users in the survey and pushes them to answer since they won’t feel confused and check what platform they were even on at the time.
