WordPress’ feature update slideshow is short and contextual
WordPress explains its block editor in a four-step slideshow shown over the post being edited, with an illustration, progress dots and a close button.
At the time of the screenshot, WordPress showed a four-step slideshow modal while the user was working on a page in the editor. The first slide, "Welcome to the block editor", has an illustration of content blocks and one sentence: each paragraph, image or video is a distinct block of content. Four dots show the user's place, a Next link moves on and a close icon sits in the corner. After four short slides, the user is left to try the feature on the page in front of them.
Why it works
✅ Small but effective: the slideshow takes up little of the screen, but the rest of the editor is dimmed, so it still holds the user's attention.
✅ Visual support: the illustration shows what the copy describes, which gives users a feel for how blocks work and helps them remember it.
✅ Skippable: users who already know the editor, or aren't interested yet, can close the slideshow at any step with the close icon.
