Spotify uses a clever way of introduction fir their new shuffle feature, smart shuffle. When a user clicks on the shuffle button, they are prompted with a slideout modal where they are given two options, regular shuffle as we know it, or Smart Shuffle, with microcopy below to onboard users to the new feature.

Why it’s great:

✅ Minimum friction - Spotify uses an onboarding UX element in a way that doesn’t feel like such, making it way less annoying for a user. The actual onboarding is done through copy that is almost hidden but is read thanks to its non-aggressive nature.

✅ Good design - The modal is designed to highlight the new feature with the use of Spotify’s signature green while still keeping the non-intrusive feel.
