LinkedIn’s tooltips care about your identity

A new feature of LinkedIn allows users to add their pronouns and their name pronunciations to their profile.

A new feature of LinkedIn allows users to add their pronouns and their name pronunciations to their profile. The tooltips are shown when on the profile, pointing at the users’ profile pictures. When clicked on the button, it takes the users to the “edit profile” page.

Why it’s great:

Contextually placed - Because the new pronoun and pronunciation features are directly related to the user profiles, it is important to keep it contextual to increase the use of the feature.

Great for inclusiveness - The new features are essentially very inclusive and create a space of respect; by doing so, LinkedIn increases user satisfaction which improves the onboarding UX.

Short and simple - Instead of using full-screen modals or more intrusive banners lecturing about respect and inclusiveness, LinkedIn simply lets users know of the new features and decreases potential user frustration.
