Genshin Impact uses a tooltip and pulsing highlights to urge the users to try out a new feature. The onboarding UX pattern does not obstruct the main functionalities of the game, however, it doesn’t have a skip button.
✅ Simple and short - Though the new shortcut is a major change to the gameplay, the game keeps the explanation short and simple to make sure all users are aware of the change.
✅ Non-intrusive (almost) - Genshin Impact almost never uses modals or other more intrusive UX patterns when onboarding to new features or updated content. Likewise, the use of one single tooltip enhances this sentiment.
✅ Great use of highlighting - Genshin Impact uses a unique type of highlighting around the areas it shows users during onboarding. Thanks to this highlighting, users can easily be onboarded to new features without the need for a modal or banner.
