User onboarding
Duolingo’s Premium promotion modal is convincing
Duolingo walks new Super Duolingo subscribers through five full-screen steps on what the paid plan adds, ending with a Super app icon toggle.
At the time of the screenshot, Duolingo introduced its paid plan, Super Duolingo, with a five-screen promotion modal. A numbered progress bar runs across the top, and each screen pairs one benefit with Duolingo's own characters: "Learn ad-free", "Practice your mistakes", "Prove your proficiency" and "Learn without limits" (unlimited hearts). The last screen, "Turn on your Super app icon", offers a toggle to swap the app icon for a Super version.
Why it works
✅ Progress bar: the numbered steps show how much is left, so five screens don't feel open-ended.
✅ Personal touch: a different app icon is a small, visible sign of the upgrade, and it ends the flow with something users can switch on themselves.
✅ Empowering copy: each headline says what the user can now do ("Learn without limits") rather than naming a feature, with one supporting sentence underneath.
