Canva’s feature onboarding is as non-disruptive as can be

Canva uses a slideout modal to show users a new feature without disrupting their own task.

While downloading a creation users make on Canva, a slideout modal is prompted on the screen which shows the download information on top while featuring new feature visuals, copy and CTAs at the bottom of the slideout.

Why it’s great:

Non-disruptive - Because the slideout modal is triggered for a user-originating action, Canva’s slideout and specifically the part where it onboards the user to a new feature is as non-disruptive as possible since it is merged with a trigger-response in-app message.

Visually supported - The visual that is displayed on the modal makes the modal even less disruptive and more engaging.

User journey-aware - A new feature bing introduced right when the desired task of a user is completed highly boosts the click rate of the new feature onboarding.
